Enroll Now for Hebrew and Religious School

Enrollment is now due for children and adults planning to attend our Kol Am Intergenerational School (KAIS) for the 2007-08 school year. KAIS offers formal Hebrew and Judaic studies for children in grades K-10 and adults. Classes begin September 9 and continue through the first Sunday in May.

Information and registration packets were recently mailed to each member household. We need to finalize enrollment in order to determine class sizes, hire additional faculty, if needed, and order books and materials.

If you need additional information or have misplaced your enrollment materials, please contact the Kol Am office, (636) 519-0082, or kolam@sbcglobal.net.

Kol Am introduces Intergenerational Religious School

Congregation Kol Am’s Intergenerational Hebrew and Religious School will begin the 2006-07 school year on Sunday, September 10. This unique intergenerational program is offered for children in grades kindergarten-12 and adults.

Hebrew classes are grouped by ability and include both children and adults.  Children wanting to be called to the Torah as a Bar or Bat Mitzvah at Congregation Kol Am must enroll in the Aleph Hebrew class beginning in the 4th grade and complete a minimum of three years of Hebrew instruction.  Children may begin Hebrew in 3rd grade with permission from Rabbi Haziza-Sokol. All Hebrew classes this year will be using the Union for Reform Judaism’s Mitkadem curriculum.  This self-paced program allows for individualized instruction with the classroom setting and enables students to progress at their own rate.

This year’s Judaic studies classes for children in grades kindergarten-7 will be using the URJ’s Chai curriculum. Students in grades 8-10 will study contemporary Jewish issues with Rabbi Haziza-Sokol. Our adult class will study Comparative World Religions. We are pleased that teachers Mitch Furman and Jenny DeSotel will be returning to teach in our school again this year. Teachers in our Hebrew and Religious School receive ongoing training and attend professional development programs thanks to a generous Professional Excellence grant from the Central Agency for Jewish Education (CAJE).  As part of this training, Jenny DeSotel attended the national CAJE Conference this summer at Duke University.
