URJ Midwest Regional Kallah

Save the dates for the weekend of May 2-4, 2008 and plan to attend the Union for Reform Judaism’s Spring Kallah that will take place here in St. Louis and will be headquartered at the St. Louis Marriott West Hotel at Maryville Centre. This is a great opportunity for Jewish learning right in our own backyard. We hope to have Kol Am well represented at this program.

The Kallah (literally, gathering) will bring together adults from Reform congregations in Missouri , Illinois , Indiana , Iowa , Kansas , Kentucky and Tennessee for a weekend of study, worship and fellowship.

With St. Louis being the host city for the Kallah, each local Reform congregation has been asked to have a representative serve on the planning committee for the Kallah. We are honored to have Sally K. serving as Kol Am’s representative on the committee.

The weekend will include learning sessions on topics including Israel , Social Action, Worship and Leadership.  The Kallah will also include a Friday night dinner and a Shabbat Alive Service to take place at United Hebrew Congregation.  All other learning sessions, including Saturday morning Shabbat services will take place at the Marriott West.  We hope to have Congregation Kol Am well represented at the Kallah.  If you are interested in attending and would like to receive additional information, contact Ronni in the Kol Am office, 636-519-0082 or kolam@sbcglobal.net.

Shabbat Services at Garden Villas

As part of our ongoing relationship with the residents of Garden Villas West Retirement Community, volunteers from Kol Am lead a monthly Shabbat service in the multi-purpose room at Garden Villas on the first Friday night of each month, preceding our regular Shabbat worship at Kol Am.  The brief service begins at 6:15 p.m. and lasts 30-45 minutes.  Our friends at Garden Villas look forward to our visits each month.  The next service will take place Friday, January 5. All Kol Am members are welcome and encouraged to attend. Rabbi Séverine and/or congregant volunteers also assist with leading a brief service in conjunction with Garden Villas’ monthly Shabbat dinners.  The dinners take place at 5:00 p.m. and generally occur on the third Friday of each month.

Very user-friendly Shabbat service booklets are used for these services.  Please consider volunteering to assist with leading these monthly services. No experience is necessary and training will be provided.  For more information, contact Rabbi Séverine at (636) 519-0082 or rabbihazizasokol@sbcglobal.net.
